Sergio Ramos hopes to retire at Real Madrid

An emotional Sergio Ramos attended the presentation of a new book 'Sergio Ramos: heart, character and passion', by the journalist Enrique Ortego on Monday at the Santiago Bernabéu and declared that he wants to hang up his boots at Real Madrid.

"I only have good words to say about Real Madrid since I arrived," said the defender, who was accompanied by his mother, father, brother and sister and nephew.

Real Madrid team-mates Cristiano Ronaldo, Iker Casillas, Pepe, Mesut Özil, Sami Khedira and Álvaro Morata were also in attendance, as was Madrid president Florentino Pérez.

"First of all, I'm grateful to Florentino Pérez because it's thanks to him that I joined the best team in the world. I hope he stays the captain of this ship for many years to come, added Ramos.

"I am also grateful to my team-mates for being here today, I'm very happy at the club and feel lucky to be here. I'm still in the middle of my career but one day I hope I will retire at Real Madrid. I hope one day another book will come out about me, and that I am remembered as a good chap."

Florentino Pérez also gave a speech, in which he lauded the Seville-born defender.

"The Bernabéu is the temple where the legend of Real Madrid was formed. It's not easy to put on the shirt of our club and play in this stadium. It demands a lot of talent, effort and above all a great sense of responsibility. The fans have taken to Ramos and he has become a new reference point for Real Madrid. And the best is still to come, Sergio."
