Real Madrid confident of landing Premier League target Falcao

December 11, 2012

Real Madrid are confident they can pip Chelsea and Manchester City to the signing of Radamel Falcao with a £45million bid for the striker.

Falcao is wanted by top clubs around Europe but according to Spanish reports, Jose Mourinho is confident he can persuade the Colombian hitman to swap Atletico Madrid for their deadly rivals in the January transfer window, despite long-term interest from European champions Chelsea.

The Blues have been in hot pursuit of Falcao, who netted a staggering five goals in Atletico’s 6-0 win over Deportivo yesterday, with concerns still surrounding the form of Fernando Torres despite the Spaniard hitting four goals in his last two appearances.

But Real look to be willing to go all-out to land Falcao’s signature and it’s debatable as to whether Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich could be persuaded to usurp their bid of £45m, having forked out £50m for Torres only two years ago.

Either way, it seems certain Atletico Madrid will have a fight on their hands to retain Falcao, with Premier League champions Manchester City thought to be another big club keen on the 26-year-old who has now scored 19 goals in 15 appearances for his club this season.
