Rafael: Manchester United determined to take City revenge

December 07, 2012

RAFAEL says Manchester United’s burning desire for revenge will tip the balance in Sunday’s derby.

The Brazilian right-back, 22, wants payback over rivals City for nicking the title on goal difference last season.

Rafael said: “There is definitely a determination to get the title back after the way we lost it. It was hard to take.

“We will never forget how we felt after the last game. We just looked at each other and asked, ‘How did we lose that?’ After last season, we just want the title back.”

City slipped three points behind United last weekend and Rafael added: “To get a six-point lead over them is very important.

“If we open the gap it can make the other team nervous and make it easier for us.”

Boss Alex Ferguson blasted his side’s defending in last weekend’s 4-3 win over Reading — subbing Rafael with just half an hour gone in the game.

The Brazilian added: “If we defend like we did at Reading against a team like City we will be in trouble, that is 100 per cent.

“This will be our biggest test of the season so we need to concentrate well.”

MANCHESTER UNITED could make their first appearance in Australia for 14 years next summer.

Alex Ferguson’s side are in talks about taking on an A-League All-Star side on July 20.
