Moratti: Inter not forcing Sneijder into new deal

December 03, 2012

Inter president Massimo Moratti insists the club are not forcing midfielder Wesley Sneijder into signing a new deal at San Siro.

The 28-year-old currently earns €6 million per season and the Nerazzurri have made it clear they want to reduce his current wages.

The club have even gone as far as saying they will not pick the Netherlands international until he responds to the terms on offer, a proposal that Sneijder has so far shown no intention of signing.

“Our rapport is not frosty as far as I am concerned,” Moratti told the club's official website.

“There isn’t a clear contrast in positions, as we are trying to find a solution that suits both parties.

“We do not want to force anything on anyone. It is a situation that will be broken down only by common sense.”

Reports in Italy have suggested the club would be willing to release the former Real Madrid midfielder on a free transfer in a bid to make savings on wages, a policy they have used already this year by enforcing the departures of other high earners Julio Cesar and Lucio.
