Loic Remy would be keen on a move to Newcastle in January, according to SkySports.
The 25-year-old has emerged as a realistic option for Newcastle in the New Year, as the long-term future of Demba Ba remains unclear.
Ba's current deal means an offer of £7.5million would be enough to take him from Newcastle.
The Magpies hope Ba will sign a new deal, but they are understood to be making plans should he leave and one of those is Remy - who has previously interested Tottenham and QPR.
Newcastle already have a strong French contingent and that is believed to appeal to Remy - who is keen to try his hand in England.
"They are a very good team," Remy told Sky Sports when asked about Newcastle.
"They are a big club with good players, very good fans and a nice stadium that is always full."
Reports claim that Newcastle are already in talks with Marseilleover a deal - but Remy insists he knows nothing about that.
He said: "The window opens in January, and there will be speculation from now until the window closes - if I have to leave then all parties must be happy.
"I have a contract so let's wait and see what happens."
