Marseille keen to make squad additions

December 17, 2012

Marseille chairman Vincent Labrune admits the club are planning to dip into the transfer market during the winter window.

One of the most prestigious clubs in French football, L'OM have been reluctant to splash the cash in recent years.

The club have not been prepared to take risks financially, preventing them from competing on a level playing field with their rivals.

Marseille have, however, been able to position themselves in the Ligue 1 title race this season, with reclaiming the crown a distinct possibility.

They are, however, aware of the need to strengthen when the opportunity arises, and Labrune claims additions will be made in January.

It is believed that a back-up goalkeeper and a goalscoring frontman will be top priorities for coach Elie Baup.

"Considering the financial situation at the club last summer, we were almost forced to sell a couple of players in the winter," Labrune told L'Equipe.

"But now our thinking is to hire a couple of players. But we won't be going mad."
