Malaga keeping tabs on Barcelona youngster Muniesa

December 31, 2012

Malaga have reportedly identified Barcelona’s young defender Marc Muniesa as a viable transfer target this winter.

The Costa del Sol outfit are seen as in the market for central-defensive reinforcements to support Martin Demichelis and Weligton.

Summer signing Oguchi Onyewu is seen as the squad’s only other specialist centre-back but is believed to have failed to impress the club and could find himself returning to Sporting CP this January.

Subsequently, Malaga are understood by Mundo Deportivo to have picked out Barca’s youngster Muniesa as a player to go for in January. He is a versatile defender who can play both at centre-back and left-back.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side are believed prepared to consider a permanent transfer, if affordable and if the player’s recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament injury is proven. Otherwise, a loan offer until the end of the season is believed possible.

Meanwhile, Hugo Campagnaro of Napoli is listed as another player that Malaga could take this winter on an initial loan basis, even if the Italians’ sporting director has today commented that the Argentine won’t be leaving.
