Liverpool and Tottenham battle for Real Madrid attacker

December 18, 2012

Liverpool are interested in a January move for Real Madrid’s bit-part player Jose Callejon but could face competition from Tottenham.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is desperate to add some extra firepower to his Liverpool squad and believes the Spanish right-winger could be available in January.

Callejon has been used mainly as a sub by Real boss Jose Mourinho, starting just four matches in La Liga so far this term.

But the 25-year-old has impressed in his cameos and has two Champions League goals to his name.

Real landed the forward for around £4m from Espanyol last year and will demand significantly more from Liverpool in January.

Rodgers is also interested in Tom Ince of Blackpool and Daniel Sturridge of Chelsea but is wary of paying over-odds for English players, a criticism levelled at Kenny Dalglish, the man he replaced at Anfield.

However, it is understood that Tottenham, who signed a strategic partnership with the Spaniards in the summer, have asked Real to keep them inform of the situation and could challenge Liverpool for Callejon’s signature.
