José Rodríguez made Real Madrid history on the 72nd minute of Real Madrid's Champions League clash with Ajax by becoming the youngest ever player to play for the club in the Champions League.
Rodríguez, who made his first appearance in Europe's elite competition aged 17 years and 354 days, overtook Raúl, who made his European debut aged 18 years, three months and 26 days.
The youngest ever player to play in the Champions League is still Celestine Babayaro, who made his debut in the competition for Anderlecht when he was aged 16 years and 87 days.
Rodríguez spoke to the press after the game, and showed his gratitude to José Mourinho for giving him this opportunity.
"The boss is one of us, he's very excited about the team and I want to thank him because it's down to him that I'm here," he said.
"I'm delighted to have made my debut in the Champions League, I've always wanted to have the Champions League shirt, it was something I dreamt about."
The young midfielder revealed that Mourinho had a little word with him before he went out onto the pitch, and declared he is hungry for more opportunities in the first team.
"Mourinho just told me to stay calm and to play like I know how," he added.
"I love playing modern football, and I like to touch the ball as much as possible. I'm working little by little so that I'm available when the boss needs me."
