Zlatan Ibrahimovic has downplayed Lionel Messi’s newly-set world record, taking the chance to have a dig at his former club once more.
The Swede enjoyed a mixed single season at the Camp Nou alongside Messi and in since departing has more than once criticised the club, its players and its former Coach Pep Guardiola for their ethos and treatment of him.
Now at Paris Saint-Germain, the 31-year-old was asked for comment on former teammate Messi’s just-set world record of 86 goals scored in a calendar year for club and country.
“I too would get 90 goals if I were given penalties as referees give them away to Barcelona,” Ibra quipped to L’Equipe.
A total of 14 of Messi's 86 goals in 2012 have come from the penalty spot, whilst Barcelona have scored one League penalty so far this season, a number less than half the teams in La Liga and equal to the number awarded to PSG in Ligue 1 this term.
