Fabio Cannavaro considered for Italy job after 2014 World Cup

December 14, 2012

Fabio Cannavaro is being talked about as a contender to replace Cesare Prandelli as Italy boss after the 2014 World Cup.

The 2006 World Cup winning captain is currently studying for his coaching badges and is set to complete his exams in June.

At that stage, the ex-defender would have the paperwork needed to take charge of a Serie A or national side.

According to Tuttosport, the Italian Football Federation see him as a candidate to be handed control of the Azzurri.

The ex Napoli and Juventus man will apparently be part of the Azzurri set-up that travels to Brazil for next summer’s Confederations Cup.

The suggestion being that he will take a close look at how Prandelli works with the side, after already working with the likes of Marcello Lippi and Fabio Capello in his career.

The 39-year-old, who has no coaching experience, retired from the game in June 2011 after a spell in Dubai with Al-Ahli.

Cannavaro won 136 caps as a player for his country, featuring in four World Cups, two European Championships and one Confederations Cup.
