Deportivo La Coruna continue to prop up the Primera Division standings after being held to a goalless draw at home by Real Valladolid on Monday night.
A first victory in six league games would have lifted Depor out of the relegation zone but they could find no way through the Valladolid backline and had to settle for a solitary point, taking their tally up to just 12 from 16 matches.
It might have been a different story if Depor winger Diogo Salomao had made the most of a great chance late on but he somehow fired over when it had looked easier to score.
Jose Luis Oltra's Depor were thrashed 6-0 by a Radamel Falcao-inspired Atletico Madrid in their last outing and they would have been forgiven for being a little apprehensive at the outset against a Valladolid side who twice led against Real Madrid in their last match before eventually going down 3-2.
However, the hosts were able to settle during a quiet opening to the match before nearly taking the lead in the 20th minute when
Bruno Gama fired in a shot that required a fine save from Dani Hernandez to keep out.
Valladolid responded to that escape by fashioning a great chance of their own four minutes later and this time it was Depor goalkeeper German Lux who needed to produce some heroics of his own with a stunning double-save to deny Oscar Garcia.
Hernandez was back in the firing line in the 32nd minute as Ivan Riki tried his luck, but the Valladolid goalkeeper was able to gather at the second attempt to keep the game scoreless.
Lux and Oscar continued their personal duel at the start of the second half, with the Depor keeper again coming out on top, before Hernandez was called upon to save efforts from Riki and Luis Pizzi as both teams sought the breakthrough.
Just as the game looked to be drifting towards a draw, Depor created that fantastic opportunity with seven minutes to go which should have seen Hernandez picking the ball out of the back of his net.
Sanabria Laure's low ball across the edge of the six-yard box found the run of Salomao but, with the goal at his mercy, he blazed his shot over the bar and the points were shared.
