DAVID DE GEA insists too much is being made of Manchester United’s error-prone defence.
The Old Trafford giants have managed just THREE clean sheets in 17 Premier League games this season.
And watching the goals go flying in has left boss Sir Alex Ferguson tearing his hair out.
But Spanish keeper De Gea points to the failure of United’s title rivals to defend effectively as evidence that it is not just a problem for the Red Devils.
He reckons everyone is suffering as a result of the quality of strikers in the Premier League.
De Gea, 22, said: “I don’t know why we haven’t kept many clean sheets this season.
“It’s odd. It’s not just us, though.
“A lot of the top teams seem to be conceding more goals than you would expect.
“I think it is symptomatic of how competitive the Premier League is.
“Any team, especially in front of their own fans, can lift their game and score against you.
“So conceding goals isn’t unique to United.
“I think it’s just a result of a competitive league and teams wanting to do well against the big sides,” added the former Atletico Madrid man, who has shared the goalkeeping duties with Danish stopper Anders Lindergaard, 28, this season.
