Chivas terminate Johan Cruyff contract

December 04, 2012

Johan Cruyff says he is unaware of his dismissal from Chivas, despite the club announcing his departure.

The Netherlands legend, largely credited with establishing the Barcelona model, had served as an advisor since February and claimed when he was hired that he had a three-year contract.

"I don't know anything. I just heard about it. I'm trying to figure out what's going on," he told De Telegraaf.

Under the former Barca player and coach, Chivas hired Cruyff's compatriot John van't Schip and installed a natural grass field.

The Goats finished eighth in Liga MX, crashing out in the first round of the play-offs, and did not make it out of the group stage of the CONCACAF Champions League.

"The coaching staff will not be changed," Chivas said in a statement.

In November, owner Jorge Vergara said that Cruyff would assist in the coaching search for MLS club Chivas USA. In the same press conference he estimated that an announcement would come within 10 days. Nearly a month later, Chivas USA still does not have a coach.
