Chelsea on alert as Porto ready to sell Jackson Martinez

December 11, 2012

Chelsea have been alerted to the availability of striker Jackson Martinez with Porto ready to cash in on the striker in the January transfer window.

The Blues are in the market for a centre forward in the new year, and could now look to move for Martinez, with sections of the Portuguese media convinced that Porto are ready to sell him.

Martinez has proved to be one of the buys of the year so far, having scored nine goals in his first nine matches for Porto, after moving from Mexican club Jaguares over the summer.

A strong, powerful and clinical striker, he fits the mandate of what Chelsea are looking for, with a shortage of prowess up front a real issue for interim manager Rafa Benitez.

Atletico Madrid, Fenerbache, Inter Milan and PSG are just a few of the sides who have been linked with the 26-year-old, but it’s thought he would prefer a move to the Premier League.

Porto would take a bid in the region of £20million for the Colombian striker, with the money likely to be used to re-invest in up to three players.
