Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez has praised manager Jupp Heynckes and hopes the coach will sign a new deal at the club.
Heynckes' current deal expires at the end of the season, and he is due to hold talks over a new contract with the Bundesliga leaders in March.
Gomez is hopeful that the 67-year-old coach will stay on at the club after leading them to a nine-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga.
"If he feels fit enough, he should stay," Gomez told kicker. "To steer this squad through the first half of the season without any troubles - I don't know how many coaches could have done it like this. It shows he has great qualities."
Gomez missed the first third of the Bundesliga season after an ankle surgery, but since returning to the Bayern team has scored three goals in seven appearances despite only playing the full 90 minutes in Bayern's Champions League clash with BATE.
However, despite Mario Mandzukic scoring nine league goals so far this season in his absence, Gomez is satisfied that Heynckes will give him another run in the team once his form and fitness warrant.
"The boss doesn't turn his back on any player," he said. "I trust him 100%.
"I was happy for Mario Mandzukic, Claudio Pizarro and the team. The team played outstanding. I was a real fan and never thought: Dear me, I am out now.
"Before the strikers were bought, the boss and I talked and he told me about the plans and asked me what I thought about the players."
