Arsene Wenger plans ambitious move for Barcelona star Dani Alves

December 18, 2012

Spanish source AS claim that Arsenal are readying a move for Barcelona wing-back Dani Alves.

Arsene Wenger is not well known for bringing in player nearing 30 years of age but clearly a player of Dani Alves’s abilities would be an anomaly worth following up. The Arsenal boss may feel he could do with a new option on the right hand side of defence and talk of interest in the former Sevilla man may relate to ongoing contract talks with French international Bacary Sagna.

Though Alves has made a fairly big contribution to first team involvement this term he has to some extent taken a back seat to the likes of youngster Martin Montoya and fellow countryman Adriano, who can play at right and left-back effectively.

Under Tito Vilanova Alves, like other experienced performer David Villa, is certainly playing a lesser role in first team affairs and as such could be open to a possible move to the Premier League, though one would imagine his wage demands would far exceed any deal a current Arsenal player would be on.

Alves is into his fifth season at the Nou Camp and has won three La Liga titles and two Champions League triumphs as well as a number of other honours.
