Ajaccio sack coach Alex Dupont

December 18, 2012

Ajaccio have sacked head coach Alex Dupont after taking only 19 points from their first 18 games in Ligue 1, leaving them three points above the drop zone.

Club chairman Alain Orsoni described how the decision came as a result of the deteriorating relationship between Dupont and his playing staff that left him with no other option.

Orsoni told the club's official website: "I met the players individually and I concluded that there is a clear break between the group and our coach. So I finally decided Alex Dupont will no longer be our coach as of today.

"The situation we have today is unacceptable. Particularly worrying is the state of mind of the group, I can not find the values that have traditionally been our strength.

"I do not feel solidarity, selfless commitment and combativeness, which are essential to maintain an elite level."

Dupont, who has only been in the job for six months, will be replaced in the interim by his assistants, Stephane Paganelli and Thierry Debes.

Ajaccio are expected to name a new boss in the coming days, with Orsoni telling fans the new coach will be announced "very soon".

The Corsican outfit sit 14th in the Ligue 1 table after 18 matches, and lost 3-2 to fellow strugglers Troyes at the weekend.
