AC Milan vs Pescara Serie A Match Report

AC Milan confidently strolled to a 4-1 victory over Pescara at San Siro on Sunday afternoon, with their generous visitors proving their own worst enemy.

The home side scored with the first chance of the game, after Antonio Nocerino was given a chance that he could not miss only a minute into the game. The Rossoneri kept up their pressure throughout the first half but could not make their dominance count as most of the efforts were from long range.

Milan doubled their lead after Robinho’s corner was clumsily headed in by Elvis Abbruscato. Christian Terlizzi pulled a goal back for the away side with a superb header on 56 minutes and Antonio Balzano nearly scored an equaliser a few minutes later. However, Massimiliano Allegri's men finished the game with two late strikes: an own goal from Jonathas and another tap-in, this time from Stephan El Shaarawy.

The in-form Rossoneri made it clear that they were confident and ambitious in the opening stages. El Shaarawy was unmarked as he made a clever run into the Pescara box and once he picked up the ball he had plenty of promising options, but chose to pass to Nocerino, who applied a simple finish to make it 1-0.

The home team maintained their pressure in the opening stages and after El Shaarawy swung a cross into the box for Pazzini, Delfini defender Balzano nearly headed the ball into his goal, but Perin was on his toes to save.

Robinho thought his side had scored a second when his free kick found Giampaolo Pazzini, the striker smashing the ball into the Pescara net with his first touch, but the referee saw an infringement and made them retake the set piece.

The visitors kept fighting but it was not enough to stop Milan from creating more chances. The Rossoneri created a number of half-chances as the game progressed but could not add to their lead before half-time.

Pescara made a lively start to the second half despite taking off Vladimir Weiss, who had been their main threat. Francesco Modesto’s delivery from wide met the head of Birkir Bjarnason but he could not get enough power on his shot to worry Marco Amelia.

The away side then shot themselves in the foot as Abruscatto headed Robinho's corner into his own net. The Pescara striker was clearly trying to put it back out for another corner but his header was wild and gave Perin little chance to save it.

The visitors gave themselves a route back into the game after Riccardo Montolivo let Terlizzi have too much space when defending a set piece and the defender headed home to make it 2-1.

All of a sudden things looked a lot brighter for Pescara, as Balzano’s 25-yard drive smashed into the post to deny them an equaliser on 59 minutes.

However, Milan did not let up and even though both teams were creating the occasional change, it was clear that the Rossoneri were the better team. Jonathas scored the second own goal of the match to make it harder for Pescara to get anything from the game and El Shaarawy put the outcome beyond all doubt by making it 4-1 on 81 minutes by slotting home Pazzini's ball across the six-yard box.

The victory means Milan remain seventh, but they are now just seven points behind second-placed Inter.
