AC Milan keen on Real Madrid defender Carvalho

December 27, 2012

Ricardo Carvalho's future may lie in Italy. A number of media outlets in the country have reported that AC Milan has reawakened its interest in snapping up the Real Madrid defender, who is no longer in José Mourinho's plans.

It is not the first time that Milan has tried to sign 34-year-old Carvalho, who is playing less and less for Real Madrid. He lost his spot in the starting eleven last season, when Sergio Ramos moved from full-back to the centre of defence, whilst the Portuguese player suffered a string of injuries.

With Thiago Silva leaving for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), the Italian team is looking for an experienced defender to take charge at the back. Real Madrid, on the other hand, already tried to offload Carvalho during the summer transfer window.

The Portuguese player has even ended up training with Real Madrid's third team, alongside players half his age.

Despite Mou not taking him into consideration, Carvalho has a contract worth €4.2 million a year – a sum which Real Madrid will save if the deal with Milan goes through.
