Allegri: Qualification will not be decided until the final game

November 21, 2012

AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri believes his side face a difficult match against Anderlecht on Wednesday, but is adamant that nothing will be decided until the final round of matches.

The Rossoneri are currently second in Group C with five points from four games, and although the 45-year-old admits things have not gone as planned, he is hopeful that they can get a decisive victory.

"It is going to be a very difficult game, just like all the ones we have faced recently," he told reporters. "I have always said the Champions League group would be balanced and it will be until the end.

"By the time we play tomorrow, we will already know Zenit's result against Malaga, but I think qualification will not be decided until the final game.

"Of course I am not satisfied with our points tally in this group, but if we have these results then it means we deserve them."

The former Cagliari boss went on to say that Alexandre Pato could make the difference for the Serie A giants, having returned from injury.

"Pato is a player who is important on an European level. This could be his game. Kevin-Prince Boateng had a good performance in terms of intensity and technique on Saturday, which was a good sign for him and for us.

Defender Philippe Mexes also spoke of the difficult test that Anderlecht pose, but insisted that his side can turn around their fortunes by staying united.

"The Champions League is a different tournament [to Serie A] entirely and we are in a very balanced group," reasoned Mexes to reporters.

"Anderlecht have shown they've got quality, but we will all fight together to get through to the next round.

"Things are not going the way they should. We lacked some good fortune but also make individual mistakes. The only way out of this is to stay united and work together in the same direction."
