Liverpool consider shock move for Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez

October 20, 2012

According to Italian source CalcioMercato Liverpool are targeting Man United striker Javier Hernandez as Brendan Rodgers look to improve his threadbare Anfield attack.

Rodgers has seen his striking options reduced to just one, with Luis Suarez being the only fit senior striker after Italian Fabio Borini broke his foot. This has led to the Northern Irish boss being linked to a number of potential January transfer targets. This one however would appear very far fetched indeed.

Chicharito has struggled to force his way into the Old Trafford side’s starting eleven on a regular basis for the best part of 18 months and the arrival of Robin Van Persie has further limited his involvement in Sir Alex Ferguson’s first team set-up.

The 24 year old Guadalajara born forward had an excellent first season at Man United, exceeding even Ferguson’s expectations, scoring 20 goals in all competitions to help his side to a Premier League title but last term things did not work out quite so well.

Chicharito struggled for form and found himself out of Ferguson’s plans for much of the campaign and has failed to sufficiently impress the Scot and has as a result slipped down the pecking order, behind the aforementioned Van Persie, Wayne Rooney as well as youngster Danny Welbeck.

Despite this it is unlikely that if Hernandez was to look to force his way out from his Old Trafford club to move to a Liverpool side struggling at the wrong end of the table and therefore the Mexican international may instead consider other options on the table.

This source also states Serie A side Fiorentina are interested in his services.
