TEAM NEWS

Both sides head into the Signal Iduna Park clash with a number of injury worries. For the hosts, Mats Hummels was forced to sit out Germany's two recent qualifying matches due to a hip injury, but should be fit to return to action for his club.

However, his fellow defender, Marcel Schmelzer, picked up a knock while on international duty. Should he not recover in time, Chris Low will deputise at left-back. Sven Bender and Sebastian Kehl have both shaken off minor problems, but Ilkay Gundogan is still in doubt with a back problem.

Finally, Jakub Blaszczykowski is still sidelined with a tear of a joint in his left knee, while Patrick Owomoyela is still lacking match fitness.

Meanwhile, Schalke boss Huub Stevens must decide between fielding Timo Hildebrand and Lars Unnerstall in goal, with the former Valencia keeper having recovered from the injury that has kept him out for much of the season.

Meanwhile, the Gelsenkirchen club will be without the services of Kyriakos Papadopoulos in the heart of defence, allowing Benedikt Howedes to play at centre-back alongside Joel Matip, with Atsuto Uchida on the right.

Julian Draxler could play some role, despite breaking an arm just over a fortnight ago against Montpellier, while Jefferson Farfan and Tranquillo Barnetta are both doubts after making long-haul journeys back from international duty.
