Manchester City midfielder Javi Garcia: I'll go back to Benfica one day

December 27, 2012

The Spanish midfielder Javi García, who left Benfica in September destined for Manchester City, assured that one day he will return to play for the Portuguese club where he spent the previous three seasons.

"I'm sure I'll be back wearing the shirt with the eagle emblem", said the footballer, also a former Real Madrid academy player, during an interview published by Portuguese online newspaper 'Mais Futebol'.

The 25-year-old Spaniard's City signing was for €20 million although Benfica will also be entitled to 50 percent of the profits on any future transfer.

The player has appeared in eight Premier League matches and scored two goals but picked up an injury that has, as he said, «somewhat complicated his start.

"I've been OK for three weeks but everything is different here, it's not easy to begin with", he commented.

He avoided making comparisons between the "two big clubs" with "very similar" facilities and ways of working, but he acknowledged that the English team "takes very good care" of him despite the difference in reception from the fans.

"The English supporters aren't as passionate [as the Portuguese], they are a bit colder and have great respect for the players", he summarised.

The footballer, who made his Benfica debut in its 2009-2010 league title-winning season, won the affection of the Lisbon supporters who always praised his commitment on the pitch.

García tripled his value while with the team, having a buy-out clause of €30 million and a contract with Benfica until 2017.
